Rio De Landskrona! Did you know that in the little town of Landskrona in the south of Sweden, they have their own Carneval! Landskrona is a small town with a bout 40 000 citizens and its situated between Helsingborg and Malmö. It’s about one hour by car from Copenhagen if you take the bridge via Malmö. Every summer in mid July they hold a huge carneval over three days, that is, each year visited by about 300 000 people. During the saturday after noon the yearly Carneval parade is held and this year 2007 about 100 000 people gathered along the streets to watch. The parade last for about 1,5 hours and contains both Samba Dancers, gymnasticks and a lot of other fun things! During the Carneval there is also a huge market that last for all the three days. The market lines the main street and there you can buy almost everything, from food to clothes and toys etc. Every night there iare also concerts all over the town. 2007 the carneval was visited by famous Swedish artists like Martin Stenmark, Danny, Jessika Andersson, Magnus Bäcklund and Melody Club. Of course, the local favorite Håkan Brinck and Rockers Radio were also there performing two different shows. The first concert was with favorits from the 60’s and the second night was a Tribute to Elvis.
All events are free during the Landskrona Carneval including all the conserts. The Carneval started in the early 90's by a man called Bertil Hallengren. He still dances in the Carnaval Parade each year. The Carneval is one of the 10 largetst "city festivals" in Sweden and is very popular. It’s easy to get to Landskrona by air. Whitin about one hour you have three airports. Sturup (Malmö Airport), Kastrup (Copenhagen Airport) or Änglelholms Flygplats (Helsingborg/Ängelholm airport). You can also take the train, bus or drive to Landskrona.
